Our Duroc boars have met the meat quality specs required by the Niman Ranch program and we have been approved to sell to their producers and several other niche markets.
Production Data Available Upon Request. Below is an example of our data as we keep Sow Productivity Index records on each female within our operation
We keep farrowing records for total born, live born and weaning weights. We have maintained and continue to keep SPI (Sow Productivity Index) records on all our sows so that we can select and continue concentrating those top indexing individuals.
Performance records are kept to benchmark growth. We continually produce market hogs that weigh 280lbs at 5.5 months of age as our last group of purebred market hogs came off test at 276lbs and 280lbs from 140 days weaned. This equates to a 1.85/lb daily gain. Our F1 pigs raised to exhibit for the production class at the local county fair had average daily gains of 2.1lbs-2.3/lbs/day.
This boar’s mother has been our most productive Duroc female as she continually farrowed and weaned large litters.
We prioritize keeping females that will not only farrow large litters but be able to wean large litters. The Duroc breed doesn’t always focus on maternal traits but when a sow performs and consistently weans nearly a 10 average its important to pay attention. We have continued to keep sons and daughters and work to build around his dam specifically since we lost her too soon unexpectedly. In 6 litters she averaged 9.8 born live, 9.6 weaned at 16.5lb/pig average.
Abelon is a December 2024 age boar that along with his littermate watched mature and develop and constantly debated which boar to keep. They were both extremely aggressive, beginning at 3 months of age and we soon realized they needed to been separated to keep them from injuring each other. Boars like these are fun to watch develop as they fit phenotypically what we strive for as they are athletic and masculine with muscle and shape. Most impressively, they back it up genetically with production records to verify their value. His grandmother and mother are two of our top indexing sows. See their actual data below:
Able 6-1 is type we strive to build around and is the result of persistent year after year selection. Plain and simple, he is a stud. He is phenomenal on his feet and legs as he moves athletically with ease. He handles a long hip and hind leg in an extremely long bodied package with a massive shoulder and forearm. All the extra’s -appetite, hormones are all in line.
His mother 61-6’s SPI data is our top indexing sow. His Grandmother is also the grandmother of the 51 litter boars. If you look at the reference sire tab his great grandfather Razzle 2-1 whom we purchased from Adam Conover is pictured along with his great great grandmother, the old 18-8 sow who originated from the lines of M Unit One (Waldo Boar housed at SGI) Mr Obvious, Mr Big, Butkus, Uron. We’ll stop at that.
If you can’t tell, we are high on him and excited to use him going forward. He will continue to drive our Yorkshires program to breed hogs that are designed phenotypically with a proven genetic background.
We continue to receive calls weekly with interest in what we are doing and requests for breeding boars and gilts. It is extremely rewarding to know others throughout the industry that are looking to utilize our genetics for their operation. Our goal continues to be directed at raising production and performance tested genetics with a focus on meat quality in consistent uniform package.
We are continually amazed at the various niche markets around the country and glad to know quality breeding stock is in high demand. To date we have shipped breeding stock to over 28 different states and over 100 different operations. If you are interested, please continue to call ahead to place your orders as we typically are 4-6 months out.
